Pre-Cracked "Keokuk" Geode

Quartz lined with some iron inclusions that give a wonderful citrine color to the quartz in parts. Very sparkly! This geode is roughly 4 inches at the longest point.

This geode was collected by me near Alexandria Missouri. Keokuk geodes have long been called "Warsaw Formation Geodes" since they are a part of the Warsaw Formation which is a Mississippian Aged Extinction event roughly 330 million years ago. Animals dying in the shallow inland sea turned into nodules which eventually turned into geodes!
