Large Labradorite Heart

Labradorite is a variety of plagioclase feldspar. And it gets its color from light passing through microscopic gaps in its crystalline structure. The gaps form from a process called exsolution. At one point another feldspar formed with the Labradorite but chemically eroded away, leaving spaces in the structure. Light passing through these spaces gives us the wonderful colors that you see!
