Golden Calcite Crystals

Beautiful golden calcite from the Casteel mine (Viburnum no. 35) near Bixby in Iron County, Missouri. This tasteful little specimen is free standing .

Calcite is one of the crystalline forms of calcium carbonate and it is a second day mineral that forms as things like limestone (also calcium carbonate) erode over time due to rain water. The water percolates through the limestone and deposited calcite in the areas beneath the limestone. How fun!
