Classic Velvet Psilomelane

Psilomelane is an obsolete mineralogical term for different manganese oxide minerals. In the 1960s and 1970s there were two prolific producers of these soft, velvety minerals. These particular specimens are from the New Mexico locality. While they are soft, they are quite delicate so handle very sparingly and do not pet the "hairs" often. These are not like the "rat's hair" psilomelanes that are more durable to touch. I have prepared special packaging to ship these in.

Specimens like these are few and far between now, unfortunately. As the localities that produced them are either gone or this part of the trend is not producing any more.
